Threat to Safety
In an emergency situation when there is a threat to safety, the police should be contacted on 999. If you dial 999 and you are unable to speak, listen to the operator, tap the handset, press 55. This will alert the operator who will know it is an emergency. If you can say something, say your location. Pressing 55 only works on mobiles and doesn’t allow the police to track your location.
Reporting abuse that is not an emergency
If you need to report any abuse that is not an emergency you should contact Greater Manchester Police on 101. Reporting incidents of domestic abuse to the GMP specialist domestic abuse investigators greatly assists in tackling the problems. The information provided enables the police to identify areas of concern and patterns of behaviour that could lead to the prosecution of offenders and ensures the safety of the victim.
